I moved to Oxford in 1989 from New York after university. I was awarded Business Student of the Year 1986. A serial entrepreneur my first business was started at the age of 18. My career in Oxford began in Audit and then moved in to Industry in 1993. After 4 years and several subsidiary acquisitions by the company to become a group of 5 companies, as the Financial Director, I was part of a team which led a buyout of the main holding company in 1997.
I have also been involved with Educational businesses, Software development and Business Consultancy. I began my first accountancy practice in 2002 as a sole trader and have grown to become a leading supporter of local businesses with accountancy, bookkeeping and consultancy services to over 600 businesses.
My favourite part of business has always been helping business owners achieve their dreams of being their own boss.
I left school at 18 and joined a medium sized Oxford practice as an articled clerk. I qualified at that practice, as a chartered certified accountant, before joining a larger practice in Cheltenham, to broaden my experience. In 1986 I set up my own practice which I grow from scratch to over 300 clients before disposing of it in 2011.
After a short period in retail, I returned to practice, joining Brookwood in 2012.
I have gained considerable knowledge and experience in dealing with all aspects of small and medium sized enterprises including assisting clients with rating appeals and probates.
I have also been involved in a number of business, as co-owner, in the retail, distribution and leisure sectors.
I moved into accountancy following a number of years as a snooker player. A change in the professional system and subsequent lack of tournaments and prize money made me realise that I was going to need another career, particularly in the long term.
Being good with numbers, and enjoying puzzles, I decided that accountancy fitted the bill, and qualified as an accounting technician with the AAT 3 years later. I followed that up by studying ACCA finally qualifying as a chartered certified accountant.
I have been with Brookwood for a number of years now, and as a manager have a decent and varied portfolio of clients. I enjoy the work that I do, in particular the more challenging accounts or tax issues and am surrounded by highly competent, interesting individuals.
Outside of work I am still a keen sportsman, playing anything I can at any opportunity. However, most of my spare time is now spent with my wonderful wife and amazing young children.
I started working at the practice in 2010 after completing my A Levels in Accounting, Law and Business Studies. I then went on to complete my AAT studies, achieving the qualification in July 2013. I am now currently studying towards the ACCA qualification.
At Brookwood my main role is to assist clients in preparing accounts for Sole Traders, Partnerships and Companies, in addition to preparing tax return for clients. I also have involvement with VAT and Company Secretarial matters.
In my spare time I enjoy reading, films and astronomy.
I have worked at Brookwood since I left school in July 2011. Upon finishing my GCSEs I studied AAT and I am now part qualified ACCA and currently studying to complete the qualification.
I enjoy working at Brookwood because it provides me with opportunities not only to learn but also to help my colleagues in their work. They provide me with challenges in my work and assist me in my studies.
In my spare time I like to read books and socialise with my friends and family.
Accounts Production Senior
I gained a BSc in Mathematical Studies at Southampton University before studying for my ACCA. I am now ACCA qualified.
I have 9 years of experience working in an accounts practice. I have 3 years’ experience as an assistant management accountant in the building industry.
I enjoy working with numbers and working with different accountancy software. I also find working with people from a variety of different business disciplines interesting.
The Brookwood team are friendly and supportive. It is enjoyable working as part of a team who will always work together to deliver the best for our clients.
I enjoy playing badminton, walking and watching theatrical performances.

I joined Brookwood in 1997, and soon after qualified as an Accounting Technician. I am now the practice manager. The aspect I enjoy the most about my work is the interaction I get with my colleagues and the clients.
When I am not working I spend time with my family and I like to keep active by going to the gym and doing yoga.
Senior Bookkeeper & Accounts Manager
Having transferred into accountancy back in 2013 and joining the team at Brookwood I have gain many valuable experiences.
After studying for my AAT qualification I am now a qualified Accounting technician and I enjoy a varied role within the company including Bookkeeping, VAT returns, Payroll and Administration.
Outside of work I like to keep fit and love to travel.
Trainee Assistant Accountant
I joined Brookwood in 2016 after finishing my A-Levels. I chose accountancy as I have interest in business, as well as finance and the two are coupled together when working with accounts. I enjoy working here as everyone has a different personality, yet all share the common interest for our work. I am currently studying towards the AAT qualification.
I have practiced karate for almost a decade, something I greatly enjoy. Later I began teaching, and have taught hundreds of classes to hundreds of different children & adults. In my spare time I enjoy both playing and following football, supporting Chelsea FC since as early as I can remember!
Trainee Assistant Accountant
I joined Brookwood in the summer of 2017 whilst studying level 3 AAT. I am now working towards completing level 4 and gaining my AAT qualification. I enjoy working at Brookwood as it helps me apply the work I have learnt during my course into day to day scenarios whilst working. I enjoy learning about new businesses and also working alongside my fellow colleagues who are all at different stages, working towards a common goal.
Outside of work I enjoy going to the gym and socialising with my friends and family.
I joined Brookwood in the summer of 2017, after returning to college in 2015 to study AAT. I chose accountancy because it is something I have always been interested in, I would like to continue from my AAT studies towards ACCA certification as my work experience and studies progress.
Working at Brookwood has helped me apply the knowledge I have learnt from college into real life scenarios. My responsibilities at Brookwood are for many of the bookkeeping and VAT clients, I also assist with year-end compliance and self-assessment. I also do the bookkeeping for my parents family business, this gives me a good insight into the other side of business from quoting for business to credit control.
Outside of work I am a mum to two girls who keep me very busy and I like spending time with family and friends whenever possible.
Bookkeeper & Payroll Administrator
I joined the payroll department at Brookwood in 2017 having spent over 20 years working as a bookkeeper for a Greeting card publisher. Prior to this I worked as a Foreign Exchange cashier for Thomas Cook for almost 10 years.
In my spare time I enjoy travel, gardening, walking and reading.
Bookkeeper & Cloud Accounting Support
I worked in Industry accounts for 22 years covering both Accounts receivable and payable management roles. I then decided to study for my AAT qualification and look to move into a practice. I joined Brookwood 2013 after qualifying my AAT .
My role involves setting up the cloud clients, providing training and ongoing support, book-keeping and VAT returns all of which I currently do remotely.
Outside of work I enjoy cooking, gardening and spending time walking the dogs and looking after my many other animals.

Prior to life at Brookwood, my first job was working for the biggest engineering company in Bath, my home town, working my way up to the Personnel Manager’s secretary. Upon moving up to Oxfordshire, I worked for a while at Halls Brewery and Oxford University before starting at Brookwood in 1988.
I have now been working for Brookwood as receptionist for 29 years and have seen many changes over that time both within the practice and staff. The practice has really developed and we now have a very good team working together.
