Roger Farrell CIMA Adv Dip MA, AAS, BSc
After university in New York, I moved to Oxford in 1989. I was awarded Business Student of the Year 1986. A serial entrepreneur my first business was started at the age of 18. My career in Oxford began in Audit and then moved in to Industry in 1993. After 4 years and several subsidiary acquisitions by the company to become a group of 5 companies, as the Financial Director, I was part of a team which led a buyout of the main holding company in 1997.
I have also been involved with Educational businesses, Software development and Business Consultancy. I began my first accountancy practice in 2000 as a sole trader and have grown to become a leading supporter of local businesses with accountancy, bookkeeping and consultancy services to over 600 businesses.
Helping Directors and business owners achieve their goals, at a departmental, group or company level with the numbers to back up the decision making is my motivation. Using both Compliance, Tax and great Management Accounting we work to ensure clients have the best information possible. Taking clients who want to grow and move forward, harnessing the collective energy of the Board or a team, and providing the highest quality advice possible is my goal as a trusted advisor.
Grant Conquest ACCA
I moved into accountancy following a number of years as a snooker player. A change in the professional system and subsequent lack of tournaments and prize money made me realise that I was going to need another career, particularly in the long term.
Being good with numbers, and enjoying puzzles, I decided that accountancy fitted the bill, and qualified as an accounting technician with the AAT 3 years later. I followed that up by studying ACCA finally qualifying as a chartered certified accountant.
I have been with Brookwood for a number of years now, and as a manager have a decent and varied portfolio of clients. I enjoy the work that I do, in particular the more challenging accounts or tax issues and am surrounded by highly competent, interesting individuals.
Outside of work I am still a keen sportsman, playing anything I can at any opportunity. However, most of my spare time is now spent with my wonderful wife and amazing young children.
Sophie Burborough ACCA
I started working at the practice in 2010 after completing my A Levels in Accounting, Law and Business Studies. I then went on to complete my AAT studies, achieving the qualification in July 2013. I am now currently studying towards the ACCA qualification.
At Brookwood my main role is to assist clients in preparing accounts for Sole Traders, Partnerships and Companies, in addition to preparing tax return for clients. I also have involvement with VAT and Company Secretarial matters.
In my spare time I enjoy reading, films and astronomy.
Katy Ward ACCA
I have worked at Brookwood since I left school in July 2011. Upon finishing my GCSEs I studied AAT and I am now a qualified ACCA accountant.
I manage both a portfolio and the bookkeeping team as we develop the Cloud technology to better serve our customers.
I enjoy working at Brookwood because it provides me with opportunities not only to learn but also to help my colleagues in their work. They provide me with challenges in my work and assist me in my studies.
In my spare time I like to read books and socialise with my friends and family.
Digital Comms and Branding
I have extensive experience in the professional services. Having worked as an IFA and advised clients on complex investments, mortgages and saving instruments. I gained a knowledge of the need to deliver professional services to clients, specific to their individual needs. I understand the challenges of the accountancy profession having worked in one of the larger regional practices.
I enjoy the aspect of creating new ways for our clients to interact with the practice. The need to create new services based on feedback from our clients about the new challenges they face and the use of technology to solve those issues is a fun challenge.
I am kept busy at home with two boys and a cat determined to rule the house.
Practice Manager & Accounts Assistant
I joined Brookwood in 1997, and soon after qualified as an Accounting Technician. I am now the practice manager. The aspect I enjoy the most about my work is the interaction I get with my colleagues and the clients.
When I am not working I spend time with my family and I like to keep active by going to the gym and doing yoga.
Bookkeeper & Cloud Accounting Support
I worked in Industry accounts for 22 years covering both Accounts receivable and payable management roles. I then decided to study for my AAT qualification and look to move into a practice. I joined Brookwood 2013 after qualifying my AAT .
My role involves setting up the cloud clients, providing training and ongoing support, book-keeping and VAT returns all of which I currently do remotely.
Outside of work I enjoy cooking, gardening and spending time walking the dogs and looking after my many other animals.
Trainee Assistant Accountant
I joined Brookwood in 2016 after finishing my A-Levels. I chose accountancy as I have interest in business, as well as finance and the two are coupled together when working with accounts. I enjoy working here as everyone has a different personality, yet all share the common interest for our work.
Having now completed my AAT studies I am moving onto my ACCA studies to qualify.
I have practiced karate for almost a decade, something I greatly enjoy. Later I began teaching, and have taught hundreds of classes to hundreds of different children & adults. In my spare time I enjoy both playing and following football, supporting Chelsea FC since as early as I can remember!
Bookkeeper & Payroll Administrator
I joined the payroll department at Brookwood in 2017 having spent over 20 years working as a bookkeeper for a Greeting card publisher. Prior to this I worked as a Foreign Exchange cashier for Thomas Cook for almost 10 years.
In my spare time I enjoy travel, gardening, walking and reading.
Alanna Thomas BSc
I finished University in 2017 at Swansea with a BSc in Accounting and Finance. I spent 2 years working with Barclays Bank in Oxford. The experience in handling clients accounts, servicing the various banking roles, dealing with confidential information and a high level of cash management was a great challenge and a lot of fun.
Having now moved to the Accountancy profession I am not only getting to work on clients year ends, I also help with all matters of company secretarial work, HMRC and Companie House matters including also internal practice administration. I enjoy the constant daily communications and training and always seek to ensure our clients have the best possible service and quality.
Outside of work my favourite things are going to live gigs, cooking or baking for friends and family.
I have worked in finance and accounting since 2002. The experience of working for companies as the inhouse bookkeeper gives me a certain insight to the challenges clients face. As an inhouse bookkeeper working on VAT, Cloud Bookkeeping producing and maintaining monthly or quartlery accounts for clients is a busy exercise but I enjoy the challenge.
Setting up new accounts and learning the clients businesses is always interesting, especially as they learn to use the new software and incorporate it into their daily lives. Staying on top of the day to day bookkeeping allows our clients to get on with their business and leave the bookkeeping to us. Working as a team we always enjoy hitting our deadlines and making sure clients have what they need when they need it.
If you see me outside the office, I am often racing to take my daughter to school before heading into the office. I look forward to maybe useing my language skills, Slovak, Russian and Czech one day with some new clients.
